He Is Risen

Today is one of the most important days of the year—every year. Today is Resurrection Sunday!

As I reflect on the importance of today, I’m so grateful that Jesus sacrificed His life for me. I am a believer in Christ, and every year the story is retold, reminding me of the innocent blood shed so that I can have eternal life.

I grew up in church, but as a kid, my excitement was about the Easter basket and the fun of dyeing and finding Easter eggs. But grown-up Christie knows the true meaning of this day. I sing the lyrics, “I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sins upon that cross,” with a grateful heart.

In all the messiness of my life, I am reassured that Jesus’ sacrifice paid the price for me.

The journey of growth over the years hasn’t been easy. The streets are always calling. The things God delivered me from—calling. The desire to match energy—calling. But thank God I’m not where I used to be.

For years, I had to chant “clearance and kids” in my head to keep me from seeing red. Thank God I’m not where I used to be!

How can I not shed tears of gratitude when I think about where I would be if it weren’t for the blood of Jesus? I can’t make Old Testament sacrifices out here today. And honestly, there are times when I listen to little savage Christie on my left shoulder instead of little do-right Christie on my right. But I repent and move forward.

So today, while cooking my Easter Sunday dinner in this dreary DMV weather (and trying not to burn my chicken), I am humbled. Jesus, I thank You. Because of You, I can move through this life knowing that one day I will be reunited with my sweet mother, my father, and all who have gone before me in faith. I don’t have to wonder where I will spend eternity.

If you’re unsure where you will spend eternity, I urge you to take a moment to consider His sacrifice. Generations upon generations have been saved by the blood of Jesus.

He died for our sins—and on this Sunday, He rose and ascended to sit at the right hand of God.

What a blessing to truly understand what His sacrifice means—for me and for you.
